The article presents a preliminary works on defining a subject field of anthropology for information science needs. Such a project seems to be necessary regarding increasing interest in human issues, as well as expansion of anthropological theories in modern science, where numerous new concepts appear next to disciplines already formed. It requires adequate definition of the phenomenon, its differentiation and dynamics, based on the assumption, that a field's range consists of a logical sum of documents' subjects used for its definition. In developing a subject field of anthropology important are both knowledge status, and openness on complicated information-retrieval needs of contemporary users. Both these factors decide on scope and structure of a subject field. It's reconstruction is based on a selection of the most important texts concerning fundamental disciplines of anthropology. However, the article is limited to the contents of selected works. Such a preliminary study shall be continued with further research for the needs of knowledge organization and information science.
