The article is concentrated on personal names of the Jews who lived under Diaspora among the Slavic nations. These names have been influenced by two main factors: on one hand, the Jewish society received many cultural elements from the (Christian) majority, on the other hand, the Jews tried to preserve their original culture with a minimum of extrinsic traits. Jewish names show differences especially in motivation, meaning and symbolism, which can be observed especially in the names derived from common nouns.
