The authoress outlines the development of an interest in outlaw in both Slovak folklore studies (since 1950) and in the folklore studies in the Carpathian area. First part focuses on research on outlaw tradition in Slovakia. In the second part she analyses differences in the perception of particular outlaws (e.g. Juraj Jánosik, Michal Vdovec, Karol Poronský called Karolicek) in folkloric traditions of both Slovaks and Poles. She also examines preparation of the synthetic work in outlaw in the Carpathian region resulting from the co-operation within International Commission for Studies of the Carpathian and Balkan Folk Culture in the years 1976-2002.
