According to Thorton & Byham the assessment centre (AC) is one of the most important step forward in management and organisation psychology during the last twenty five years. Since 80s, a rising popularity of this method is observed not only in the USA, UK, but also in other countries, even in Poland. The main purpose of this article is to offer a theoretical background of the assessment centre. Apart from the descent of AC, the authoress describes definitions of AC, task force on Assessment Centre Guidelines and the strategy of applying the assessment centre method.
