The article analyzes peripheral German lexems bound to culture and geography of the Scandinavian countries except Finland. These quite heterogenous lexems with the most frequent items 'Ombudsmann/-frau, IKEA, Wiking(er)' in the German corpora should form an image of the respective countries in the dictionary text. Two electronic versions of the 'Duden Universalwörterbuch' (DUW) are compared to show different attitudes to onomasiological collection of lexems related to the Nordic mythology. The older version 2.0 is to be preferred because of its more thorough selection. As the DUW entries provide an important assistance when creating the macrostructure of the 'Large German-Czech Dictionary', the authoress discusses the position of the periphery in DUW and its possible inclusion in the bilingual dictionary being written. Scandinavian lexems related to the European cultural heritage (Germanic mythology) should be included in the bilingual dictionary currently being built as it is intended for advanced belles-lettres translators. The information offered on a metalanguage level (commented distinctions betweens the Nordic and Germanic forms - 'Frey/Freyer', e. g.) should respect the specific needs of Czech users to facilitate dealing with variants in graphemics etc. In addition, an index of 'Scandinavian' lexems is planned.
