Published since 1894, the periodical 'Gazeta Grudziadzka' (GG) often came under the scrutiny from the police and prosecution services for publications that did not conform to the law applicable in the part of Poland ruled by Prussia. Leon Kowalski, the author of texts published in the 12 and 17 September 1907 editions of GG, was one of the periodical's editors who appeared before the court when14 activists from the Hakata organisation were offended by his publications. The court accepted the charges, sentencing the editor in chief of GG to three months and two days in prison. Kowalski served his sentence in the prison in Wronki.
