The article discusses Maria Dluska's concept of litany as one of the prototypes of the Polish numeric accentual verse system (tonic verse). It is suggested that the litany represents a more complicated rhythmical composition, which is only similar to an accentual one. The term syntagme is used here to define a part of sentence which is semantically compact and longer than an accentual group. The article refers to the Jan Twardowski's poems of a quasilitany form and describes them as a different verse system named a syntagmic-accentual one. In this numeric composition, each line is divided into fixed number of syntagmes, some of which can, but not necessarily, be internally split into a strictly indicated number of accentual groups.
