Walahfrid Strabo is one of the most important and interesting authors of the 'Carolingian Renaissance'. Among his authentic works there are also several non-authentic ones, including so called 'memoirs' from the monastic school of Reichenau (815-825), wrongly attributed to him but in reality compiled in 1856/1857. The author reflects upon reasons for choosing Walahrid Strabo as an ' author' of the so called 'memoirs'. He also seeks an answer to the question why this text has become so popular and so important for so many historians of education and for such a long time (1862-1986).
