The subject of the article consists of proper names used in the texts of memoirists from the 19th and early 20th centuries . Predicative use of proper names, based to a significant extent on metaphorical and, more rarely, metonymic references to so-called encyclopedic connotations of onyms with positive or negative overtones, enables observation of changes in the categorization of individual lexical units and of the skill with which they use the new values. Mythological names, given names and surnames of historical and literary figures, ethnonyms (names of nationalities) and geographic names (names of towns) are subject to partial (textual) or complete (systemic) appellativization. Lexicalized proprial derivatives functioning on the linguistic-textual level, which belong to the category of common expressions, are - at least to a certain degree - a carrier of information on the social, political, moral or cultural situation at the time. Non-stabilized spelling of this type of name attests to graphical inconsistency of the text's author or an incomplete process of appellativization.
