In the retrospective, the paper outlines the co-operation of the Institute of Ethnology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Regional Centre of the Crafts (the state institution established in 1945 to support traditional handicrafts) since the establishment of both institutions. The emphasis is put on several active personalities and particular examples of co-operation in the areas of research and documentation of traditional handicrafts and techniques, popularisation, cultural education and application of the knowledge of material cultural heritage.
