The article proposes an application of a classical, popularized by Victor Turner, idea of communitas on the ground of research on contemporary religiosity. Basing on the example of a church fair of Assumption Day the authoress shows a possibility of applying both categories: existential communitas (describing a type of a religious experience) and normative communitas (describing social relations emerging during a pilgrimage). She uses those categories to interpret fieldwork data collected in 2007. Although the idea of communitas introduced by Turner cannot grasp the whole specificity of pilgrimage, it can organize its description. However, such a description must be complemented with lacking elements. The authoress believes such lacking elements are, in case of the fair in Kalwaria Paclawska, individual motivations of pilgrims. That is why this article presents an attempt of combining the collective idea of communitas with an individual aspect of some religious practices.
