Local referendum (as a form of direct democracy) is a good complement to the implementation of power in the form of representative democracy. The authoress analyses legislation of the local referendum in the Slovak Republic. She characterizes the possible forms of the local referenda (mandatory and optional), defines entities authorized to initiate a local referendum and to vote in local referendums. She uses the addition law of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic. Based on practical experience in implementing a local referendum in the Slovak Republic the authoress highlights the shortcomings of the legislation and be given suggestions for improving the status quo.
