The paper synthesizes the problem of the identity of an emigrant. For him the state of permanent instability is characteristic. He is situated on the crossroads between accepting the new environment and homesickness (grief for the abandoned fatherland). His identity is complex that is torn apart between autochthon culture present in the emigrant's subconscious and the actual new culture to which he aspires, if on a higher social level than that of authenticity, or ignores, if on the lower level. The paper is based on the understanding in respect to unsteadiness of an identity or identity as a construct comprising various parts i.e. structured and subjected to modeling. Such identity is characteristic for creative persons from all meridians since ancient times (starting from Dante, Shakespeare, and Byron to contemporary poetesses in our area: Dubravka Ugresich, Kica Bargieva Kolbe, Lidija Dimkovska) who continuously search for themselves.
