The first step was to collect all citations from the said publications in tabular form, providing grounds for the intended analysis. The sheer size of this table - 9901 items - precluded it from being appended in this place. The essence of the study was a multi-criteria citation analysis, including number of citations of works by Polish and foreign authors, number of citations of works in the most frequently occurring languages, citations of works from Eastern bloc countries and the Western states. In order to evaluate the degree of isolation of Polish archaeology from Western science, works and authors cited most quickly after the publication of a given item have been listed. The citing index, which has been prepared, will serve as an auxiliary tool for evaluating the impact of foreign science, including Soviet science, on the discipline of archaeology in Poland and will provide an in-depth overview of the field in the 19-year period. The prepared bibliographic data citations in 1957-1975 reflects the participation of Polish scholars, as well as the presence and impact of foreign-language authors in the field of Polish archaeology. It is a rich source of information on development trends in Polish archaeology of the period, as well as the impact exerted on this field by scientific developments in other countries. The share of foreign science was measured in absolute numbers of citations, giving an idea of the frequency of citation of new works, while impact was weighed by a content analysis of the citations table. Results have been presented in the form of charts picturing particular citations. Citations of Polish authors were subjected to a detailed analysis, as was also the significance of particular items of scholarly writings. Also presented in chart form are citations of works in foreign languages, published in countries of the Eastern bloc as well as in the West. Polish archaeology was not isolated from Western European science as indicated by the high number of citations of works published in Europe in German, English and French. Yet it is also clear that access was more facile to works published in the Soviet Union and the Eastern bloc countries as compared to works published in the West. This is demonstrated by the shorter time gap between a work's date of publication and its first citing, as well as the bigger number of new works cited. Contrary to opinions about the overwhelming impact of Soviet science on Polish archaeology, the phenomenon is not reflected in the citation analysis presented in this paper. Neither are there any premises to propose that Polish archaeology belabored under a strong influence of Marxist-Leninist thinking in 1957-1975. Thus, the objective bibliometric statistical analysis presented in this article is significant in helping to verify expressed opinions on the history of Polish archaeology in the second half of the 20th century. 20 Figures
