The article is dealing with issues having a direct impact on the actual state of affairs connected with the rule of the freedom of movement. The coordination of social security schemes is based on a rule of professional mobility of workers and other professionals. The change on the labor market, including the increased flexibility and changes in national legislations, are the true challenge for coordination regulations. Finally, the process of coordination is to be analyzed in a broader legal framework of community law, laws stemming from European Citizenship, and the freedom of movement law (Directive 2004/83). As the article shows, these are not fully compatible and this fact is causing a number of problems, both legal and social, for people trying to freely move from one EU Member State to another.
