The article describes current research on library anxiety with reference to Polish and English studies and literature of that subject. The theory and principles of library anxiety have been presented, followed by the discussion of research conducted in the field by C. Mellon, S. Bostick, A. Onwuegbuzie and Q. Jiao. Five models of library anxiety have been specified as presented in the book 'Library anxiety: theory, research, and applications' (2004), which provides the most comprehensive analysis of this phenomenon in the literature of the field
