In the article the author puts a question whether a literary text of any type - drama, prose or poetry - can be taken as a credible source of information in a crime investigation concerning a murder, for example. Having analysed some texts written by Russian and Polish poets, he arrives at a conclusion that a positive answer is mainly proved by a possibility for a poet to present in a work his own vision, interpretation and deduction of the events that may not coincide with the ones the readers already know. Whereas a negative answer is supported by the fact that a literary text being the effect of a conscious poetic effort cannot be assumed as a totally truthful evidence but rather as a source of implications and reflections, primarily for investigators, and secondly for anybody interested in the occurrence.
