This paper deals with the question of conceiving of experience. In his account the author proceeds by three steps. The first step concentrates on metaphysical and transcendental thinking in which such moments as one, whole, first, last and highest are basic in ordering experience. The second step analyses the intentional phenomenology of experience in Husserl’s sense. The third step presents responsive and feeling-based phenomenology in which experience is presented as broken and furrowed by penetrating changes and overlappings. In conclusion it is argued that a phenomenology which remains attentive to the fertile bathos of experience is possible only as an indirect phenomenology. Phenomenological epoché should be practiced not only as a holding back which inhibits our intentional acts, but rather as an alienation which opens our view and our language to that which we meet with and which provokes our responses. The “prior for us”, from which Aristotelian theory of being and knowing arises, is revealed from the beginning as irrevocably later, giving rise to a rupture in experience which cannot be mended by any creation of sense.
