Europe has always had problems understanding Africa although the continent has been known since ancient times. Yet African interior has been explored as late as in 19th C. when European empires emerged. Polish society has not gained deep understanding of Africa since we have not got the colonies. Africa is perceived first of all as a very poor continent. The situation might improve if rich countries would change their approach and decisively reduce debts and increase intemational help and restructure global trade. Equally important is the question of taxes imposed on African goods imported to the richer countries. The article presents detailed view of gains and losses in the not really free and not really fair trade between Africa and the countries of Europe and America.
