The great layout of the gardens which in the second half of the 17th century Graf of Herberstein Johann founded at Grafenort (pol. Gorzanów), in the County of Kladsko (Grafschaft Glatz) was the only work inspired by a new European style to be found among the gardens of the grand duke in Stuttgart Hechingen and other places. All these great garden, including the royal gardens at Fontainebleau and Blois in France, had the common idea: to separate the garden from the residence itself. This was also the main idea behind the nonexistent today great garden layout of the Neugebaude Palace near Vienna, in impressive garden described by Matheus Merian made for the duke of Saxony in Schlackenwerth (Ostor nad Ohri), or the garden founded by Bishop Sittich in Hellbrunn near Salzburg. In the latter there are preserved numerous grottoes - like those present in the great work by Joseph Furttenbach. The grotto at Gorzanów is the greatest of all known examples, as regards their architectural and sculptural richness, and it can compete only with the grotto created in the centre of the garden next to the bishop's residence at Kromeriz. The Gorzanów grotto has almost identical plan and is decorated with very similar sculptures as the Kromeriz. Its author is still unknown, while the one in Kromeriz grotto is thought to be a work of an Italian school of architecture and as such is regarded to be an example of Italian artistic influence in the County of Kladsko in the second half of the 17th century.
