(The abstracted paper is also published in English: Ibid. 2004, Nr 1s(33), pp.113-122). In Poland, the question of employee shareholder plans appeared in connection with the transformation of ownership of the state sector after 1989. Subject to changed ownership (a private investor) and organizational-legal (the legal form of the company, usually a joint stock company) conditions, this group of shareholders jointly molded the situation of the staff of former state enterprises from the very beginning. It should be stressed that as a result of commercialization (the transformation of the state enterprise into a single-owner State Treasury owned company) and subsequently the privatization of the company, the staff loses its status as co-manager that had been tied with the position of the worker self-government. In exchange it receives other forms of influence over the company.
