From the beginning of 90-ties a situation of the labour market was gradually worsening. The employment rate and the professional activity rate were decreasing while the unemployment rate was increasing. This situation was a result of economic changes and a quality inbalance of demand and supply of labour. The analysis was aimed to define a type of unemployment. It was found that unemployment in Poland and in the country in years 2003 - 2004 had mainly structural and demand character. In this period the impact of economic factors on the goods and services market was higher than in the years 1992 - 1998. The share of structural unemployment in real unemployment was higher in the countryside than in a city. The essential factor of decreasing the unemployment rate is economic growth which is followed by the increase of employment while reduction of wages does not have an impact on significant decrease of unemployment rate.
