The structural phenomenology of Heinrich Rombach, as a continuation of the phenomenological traditions, has manifold historical and cultural meanings. The first is “structure” viewed as the third phase in the whole history of spiritual development, succeeding after “substance” and “system”. Secondly, “structure” is understood as the future phase of phenomenology, which stands apart from both Husserl’s phenomenology of consciousness and Heidegger’s phenomenology of essence. Thirdly, “structure” makes a connection to eastern thinking: that is to the experience of tao. This connection actually enable the inter-cultural dimension of philosophising.
