The article discusses five selected migratory corrosion inhibitors (MCI) and, by way of comparison, two vapour corrosion inhibitors (VCI), based on amine compounds. The titular inhibitors have been examined from the viewpoint of their possible application for the conservation and restoration of modern paintings whose authors (Aleksander Kobzdej, Bronislaw Kierzkowski, Jacek Jarczewski) used corroding material in the underpainting (ungalvanised metal nets, steel elements). Such material - alongside assorted forms of damage (e.g. cracking, gaps, loosening) - has also produced rusty spots on the used paper or plaster. The conducted comparative studies concern, i. a. the resistance of MCI and VCI to UV, the impact of the tested inhibitors upon paper and plaster, and the effectiveness of inhibitor protection against the corrosion of steel elements. Pertinent research has demonstrated that MCI and VCI cannot be used for the conservation of contemporary paintings containing plaster and paper, whose protection may involve methods consisting of lowering relative humidity in an interior or placing the paintings in air-tight containers with silica gel, thus making it possible to obtain humidity within the 40-45% range.
