The objective of this paper is to map the fate of Dr Maximilian Girth (1910– 1971). This ethnic German worked as a clerk and head of the communal administration it the town of Prostějov during the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. This paper focuses mainly on the period between 1940 and 1944, when Girth assumed the position of Government Commissioner and subsequently mayor of the town of Prostějov, however, it also summarises his fate after the Second World War.
