The article presents characteristic of organization and functioning of healthcare systems in Scandinavian countries, which may serve as an example to Poland. All Scandinavian countries have introduced health reforms changing the existing healthcare models more or less successfully. Every new concept has been enthusiastically treated as a remedy for problems facing the system. However, even the best solutions have encountered resistance from social and political groups effectively rejecting all the attempts to improve health sector. Over time, decision-makers have remained positive about reforming health system even though the society's optimistic attitude towards it has declined. The long-standing experience of Scandinavian countries allows policy-makers to have a more rational approach to health system and to define a more reasonable goals and the direction of reforms.
