Before 1918, the Czechs and the Slovenians lived within one state - the empire of the Austrian Habsburgs - for many centuries. These two nations maintained intensive cultural and political contacts particularly in the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. However, after the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy disintegrated, the collaboration between the Czechs and the Slovenians 'dissolved' within broader Czechoslovak-Yugoslav contacts to a large extent. The situation changed again at the beginning of the 1990s when a separate Republic of Slovenia was established after the dissolution of Yugoslavia in 1991 and a separate Czech Republic followed the disintegration of Czechoslovakia two years later. The article outlines the re-establishing Czech-Slovenian cultural, educational and scientific collaboration of the last fifteen years (1993-2008). It mentions the teaching of the Slovenian language at Czech universities, the organizing of exhibitions commemorating historical and cultural bonds between the two nations and scientific conferences and symposia dedicated to outstanding promoters of Czech-Slovenian collaboration, the publishing of professional publications on the history of the Czech-Slovenian cultural and political relations, etc.
