The article is intended to demonstrate that 'Biblioteka Warszawska' (Warsaw Library) was a rich source of information on the Polish literature in Upper Silesia in the years 1841-1863. This subject has been addressed in many other articles and reviews. Another purpose of the article is to demonstrate that books published in the Polish language in Upper Silesia received recognition outside the region. Attempts are made to show the monthly's role in disseminating information about how the knowledge of written Polish and the rules of correct Polish were propagated despite unfavourable political conditions in Upper Silesia, thereby providing evidence of the struggle of Upper Silesians in defending the Polish language against Germanisation.
