The development of technology brings about new ethical and moral problems. Their solution cannot be only based on legal and societal norms in place. Many phenomena, now in new contexts because of new technologies, acquire new characteristics and require redefining. Situations, which under current socio-moral norms work well, in virtual environment acquire different meanings. Many goods with special characteristics, like information or computer programmes, are now subject to interpretation. In this article the authoress considers computer ethics and cover intellectual capital, in particular issues of copying in terms of copyright, computer pirating, complying with license agreement as well as copyright in Poland and the idea of Open Source. The main conclusion is that the development of legal rules concerning Internet use lags behind technological development. Under these circumstances education of computer ethics is indispensable because ethical literacy of Internet users increases their responsibility.
