The article will refer to the tradition of managing Polish libraries, without which libraries, concepts for managing the same and library technologies would not be successfully developing in contemporary Poland. The author will discuss the concepts and achievements of Edward Kuntze (1880–1950), director of the University Library in Poznań between 1919 and 1926 and of the Jagiellonian Library between 1926 and 1947. He will comment on the permanence, or also partially outdatedness of Kuntze’s views.
