Władysław Gosiewski (1844—1911) was mathematician, mathematical physicist, and organiser of Polish scientific life. His philosophical concepts are less known. Gosiewski`s unfinished philosophy contains four main threads: a non-Euclidean geometrisation of the notion of matter (it is possible that he devised it independently of Clifford), a processual understanding of existence linked with the dissipation of energy, the correlation of the increase of self-consciousness of monads with the decrease of their average happiness, and a probabilistic analysis of reasoning. In the latter aspect Gosiewski was a forerunner of the Lvov-Warsaw School.
