The aim of the article covers some cardinal issues connected to new words generally known as neologisms. The terminological determination and definition of new words in the language of the German press is crutial in order to be able to distinguish neologisms from the other kinds of lexical innovations. Tracing the further development of neologisms of the 90ties in the current German language of the press can be decribed as one of the main extensions of this paper. Some fundamental theses about the developments of neologisms in the press language have been conceived. The change of field of usage of nalysed new words can be desribed as one of the most common tendences in their development.
