The author focuses on the Slovak aviation in 1939 to 1944, when total of 18 aviators got lost during the combat deployment against the enemy or during the courier flights. Eleven of them fell during the more than three-year long combat deployment on the Soviet-German frontline in 1941-1943. Gendarme Vojtech Kaliský, who has gone missing on 21 September 1941, during the operational flight in the area of Ukrainian Borispol, was the first of these war victims. The author states that the Slovak military authorities only stopped investigating the circumstances of his death in the 2nd half of 1944, based on the report of the German military authorities from June 1943. According to the as yet unknown set of documents stored in the Military History Archive Bratislava, he deals with the circumstances of death of gendarme V. Kaliský, as well as the actions of the Slovak administration leading to registration of his death in the Central Registry of Fallen or Deceased Members of the Slovak Army during the state defence emergency.
