The text focuses on the historical development of Czech words used to name persons working in agriculture, such as zemědělec, rolník, sedlák and farmář during the 20th century. Their semantic changes and contemporary usage are researched through their collocations appearing in historical documents such as laws, language dictionaries, encyclopedias, contemporary journals and newspapers collected in the Czech National Corpus (SYN – synchronic written corpora).
