The Author raises three issues: 1. The significance of the glass-making centre in Venice-Murano, which developed from the time of Middle Ages and had wide trade relations by the routes over land and seas, including trade with glass artifacts and close cooperation with other centres; 2. The role of the Benedictine Order in the development of glass manufacturing; 3. The relations of secular and monastic (particularly Benedictine) glass-making.
