Sugar factory in Lublin was built in 1895. At the beginning it was functioning within organizational framework of Equity Sugar Company "Lublin" and since 1910 within Equity Company and Sugar Refinery "Lublin".During difficult conditions of I World War and Austro-Hungarian occupation (1914-1918) the area of the factory's plantation decreased of 72,4% and the production of sugar declined by 77,4%.Sugar Factory and Refinery "Lublin" played an important role in the region. It employed about 1000 people and thanks to manufacturing 18,9%-38,8% of the total amount of sugar produced in Lublin Governorate it contributed greatly to solving the problem of food supplies of the population.In 1916 the mentioned factory was included to Lublin borders which had been expanded by Austrian authorities. Thus, the factory became an important element of the economic infrastructure of the city.
