The following paper has been written on the basis of both already known scientific descriptions and unknown well-preserved manuscripts found, by the author, in the State Archives in Lublin. It has been dedicated to Józef Skłodowski, an outstanding educator and head-master of a Secondary School in Lublin in the years 1851-62, who built a new school building, employed teachers and equipped it with teaching aids. Skłodowski' s family life, his studies at Philosophy Division of Warsaw University in the years 1826-29 and his participation in November Uprising have been presented. In the years 1832-51 Skłodowski was Physics, Chemistry and Maths teacher in Kielce, Warsaw, Łomża, Łuków and Siedlce. He was the man of great mind, spiritual values and a true patriot, who had a deep love for his country in the period of political opression and Russsification. He had an influence on his granddaughter instilling a love of nature and science in her. In his retirement Sklodowski moved to Jawidz, where he died on 21.08.1882 and was buried on the cemetary in Kijany, near Lublin.
