After the First World War, Maria Sklodowska Curie, had to face the great problem which was lack of money needed for the functioning of the Radium Institute in Paris and the need to obtain radium for further research. Surprisingly, with the help of American journalist Mary Maloney, who undertook to carry out a large fundraiser in the U.S. for the purchase of 1 gram of this element. It was connected with the need of Marie Curie to travel to the U.S. Triumphant voyage of the great scientist was held in 1921 and the culmination of the visit was a symbolic transfer of radium at a ceremony at the White House. The next trip of a great Nobel Prize winner was in 1929, this time she managed to collect enough money to buy radium for the Radium Institute in Warsaw.
