This essay takes up professor Stróżewski’s claims about the significance of the fact of dialogue, of conversation. Both the category and the experience of ‘dialogue’ are discussed; and its various effects are shown on a variety of real-life examples. The conditions which a conversation must meet in order to be an ‘authentic conversation’ are stressed, while also considering what makes meeting this goal of authenticity difficult. The role of silence as an important element of dialogue is also taken into account.
