The process of development of research competence of school students is described in the paper. The terminology of competence approach is discussed. Research competence modeling is presented. Pedagogical conditions of forming research competence are viewed. Students’ activity is analyzed regarding the state initiative “Our new school”. Levels of students’ research competence are given.
