Celem opracowania jest ustalenie stanu wiedzy w zakresie teorii spójności w odniesieniu do postaw/zachowań społecznych (spójności społecznej). W pierwszej części opracowania przedstawiono selektywny przegląd prób konceptualizacji pojęcia "spójność społeczna". Część druga stanowi przegląd spostrzeżeń w zakresie relacji pomiędzy spójnością społeczną a jej efektami (performance). Następnie zaprezentowano selektywny przegląd dotychczasowych podejść do operacjonalizacji konstruktu "spójność społeczna". Na końcu sformułowano finalne konstatacje oraz kierunki badań nad spójnością społeczną. Cel opracowania został zrealizowany przy wykorzystaniu ekstensywnego przeglądu literatury w danym obszarze wiedzy. Wyniki krytycznej analizy literatury przedmiotu uprawniają do stwierdzenia, iż metodyka badań nad spójnością społeczną powinna podążać w kierunku podejścia jakościowego.

The purpose of the paper is to establish the state of the art of cohesiveness theory in terms of social attitudes/behaviour (social cohesion). The paper is organized threefold. Firstly, a selective review of researchers' endeavours to conceptualize the concept "social cohesion" has been presented. Secondly, the considerations due to the relationships between social cohesion and broadly understood performance have been illustrated. Then, a selective review of current approaches to operationalize the construct "social cohesion" has been highlighted. Finally, conclusions and future research directions have been formulated. The purpose has been realized by means of an extensive literature review in a given field. The results of critically scoping the literature have entitled to infer that research methodology on social cohesion ought to be directed towards a qualitative approach.
