This essay raises some questions about fieldwork in the folklore studies, especially how changes in theoretical backgrounds, project goals and current topics influenced innovations in field research methods in Slovakia from the 1950’s to the present. Using three examples of my own field works in the 1970’s – 1980’s and at the beginning of the 21st century in Slovakia I discuss the questions in the context of Slovakian and international folklore studies.
