The paper addresses the problem of human providence, in the sense defined by Thomas Aquinas, as the foundation of the theory of politics. I argue that this doctrine is analogous to the contemporary praxiology aiming to find best possible ways of action of achieving a goal. There is, however, an important difference: for, according to the theory of providence, it is required that an action should be not only successful, but also honest. Politics should then be understood as a sagacious (phronetic) anticipation as well as a phronetic realization of the common good.
