W artykule zidentyfikowano ogniwa łańcucha dostaw produktów mlecznych oraz przeanalizowano je pod względem oddziaływania na środowisko naturalne. Pod uwagę wzięte zostały cztery aspekty, a mianowicie globalne ocieplenie klimatu, zużycie energii, zużycie wody oraz gospodarka odpadami. Gospodarstwa rolnicze okazały się być ogniwem najbardziej zanieczyszczającym środowisko prawie we wszystkich omawianych w artykule obszarach.

Within the framework of the paper, primary production and dairy farm stages were identified and analyzed with regard to their impact on the environment. Four aspects were taken into consideration, mainly: global warming, energy use, water use and waste management. Out of all impact categories, the farm phase is localized as the hot spot for environmental degradation.
