The article provides insight into some new aspects of language situation and language policy of the period under discussion. The author examines 1) the political and legislative level of resolving the linguistic question in the context of national revival ideology in 1917–1922; 2) the ideology of Soviet construction (since 1922) and the distinctive features of Ukrainisation; 3) the directions of linguistic studies and their development; 4) the political motives behind the destruction of the Ukrainian linguistic science through discrediting and repressing linguists.
