Paths marked out in the terrain, also known as tourist paths, play an important role in the exploration of tourist areas. Depending on the approach of the researcher or scientific discipline which studies the problem of recreational exploration one can distinguish between various definitions of tourist paths. Therefore in connection with above, the aim of this paper is to present the many approaches and definitions concerning tourist paths. In the opinion of the author, differentiation of research approach can be presented at 3 levels: basic, tourist and metatourist.
