An analysis of political events at the Columbia University campus in New York in 1965-1968 was conducted from the point of view of students' political activity in the second half of the 1960s. The author discusses key political events envisaged as a tangle of several circumstances: the supposed co-participation of the University in the Vietnam war, the revolutionary zeal of the Students for a Democratic Society activists at Columbia, the political ambitions of the leaders of the black community in Harlem, and the inconsistent conduct of the academic authorities which in April 1968 led to an outbreak of one of the most significant strikes in the history of American schools of higher learning and, subsequently, the closure of the university for six weeks. The article is based on sources obtained thanks to a survey conducted in Columbia University Archives - Columbiana Library in New York
