Izabela Fleming Czartoryska was one of the most distinguished women in the eighteenth century Poland. She played an especially important role in the political life of the country. She managed to popularize the restitution of Polish values (“enlightened sarmatism”), helped the “patriotic” faction in the beginning of the Four-Year Sejm, and later, after the collapse of independent Poland, she created in Pulawy thriving center of national thought. Her personal example helped to create fashion among aristocratic women for personal raising children. Moreover, during the national uprisings she was considered as a symbol of patriotism and sacrifice.
