This article is an attempt to look at a small community living in one of the colonies Katowice interwar-period. It was established in the years 1927-1928, and consists of several two-family houses. They were built in order to merit the Silesian Poles, mainly living in areas of Silesia previously granted in 1922 to Germany, but also for newcomers from Wielkopolska and insurgents from the area of Polish Silesia. Despite the fact that all the inhabitants of Cologne (in the mid-twentieth century it was less than 30 900 persons) were Poles, the community that formed were characterized by a strong political polarization that reflects the specificity of the interwar-period Polish Silesia. On the one hand there were the supporters of Wojciech Korfanty, on the other hand - supporters of the Silesian province governor Michał Grażyński. There were also a group of people with vague political sympathies. The art of living on the border, in a small community, in difficult times of disunion, everyday life in a "corner-Silesia" - as Fr. Emil Szramek called it - the main subject of the article.
