The aim of this study is to present results of a complex analysis of the grapheme Y usage in the so-called Old Czech Glagolitic Comestor (Peter of Troyes’ Historia scholastica). This work proves to be suitable for research into this specific problem of the Old Czech Glagolitic script, because it is probably a text which was translated from Latin directly for the so-called Emmaus monastery, and was originally written in the Glagolitic script. Analysis of the grapheme Y usage leads the author of the present study to the conclusion that this grapheme serves both for representing ja/’a at the word beginning and in specific cases also in the middle of a word and for representing the Old Czech phonemes e/é. No clear evidence has been found of the Y representing the Old Czech ě/ie.
